Events

Leicester Probashi are delighted to bring celebrations of Indian Bengali culture and arts through various events held throughout the year. These include celebrating Durga Puja, Saraswati Puja and hosting various cultural events.

Please see our event pages below for more information!

Durga Puja

Durga Puja is the biggest Hindu Bengali festival of the year. It is held during the latter part of the year and celebrates Goddess Durga and the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and togetherness.

UNESCO has declared the Durga Puja celebrations of Calcutta as one of the intangible cultural heritages of the world and we at Leicester Probashi make the effort to bring the same feeling to our celebration of the event, even though we are several thousand miles away from Calcutta.

Leicester Probashi are delighted to host this 5-day celebration year-on-year with each day including Puja, Anjaali, cultural programmes, food and opportunities to meet new people!

For more information on upcoming events and previous Durga pujas please see our Durga Puja page.

Saraswati Puja

Saraswati Puja is a Hindu celebration of the Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, music and arts. The celebrations are held in early spring and include Puja (prayers), cultural performances and food!

For more information on Saraswati Puja, please see our Saraswati Puja page.
